Happy Canada Day from Casa Chaos!

flag toesYes. I paint my toes for Canada Day. Don’t judge. (And yes, I know my toes are odd. My boys all inherited them and I get cursed out on a regular basis.)

Here’s hoping your July is off to a wonderful start. We rounded out June with a trip to Boston. We saw the usual suspects – the Geek, the Geekess, and the Mensch – and, to my heart’s eternal delight, we also got to spend time with the Fraulein. She and her honey are spending a couple of weeks in the States, and they started in Boston. They’ve moved on now to San Francisco, for time with Maestro and the Saint, then will visit Yosemite and make their way to Seattle. A full and exciting time for them, and such a wonderful, wonderful chance for us to talk and laugh with her again.

What I’m Reading:

The Daughter of TimeThe Daughter of Time, by Josephine Tey

I’m just partway through this book, but it’s grabbing me already. Here’s the description on Amazon:

Voted greatest mystery novel of all time by the Crime Writers’ Association in 1990, Josephine Tey recreates one of history’s most famous—and vicious—crimes in her classic bestselling novel, a must read for connoisseurs of fiction, now with a new introduction by Robert Barnard.

Inspector Alan Grant of Scotland Yard, recuperating from a broken leg, becomes fascinated with a contemporary portrait of Richard III that bears no resemblance to the Wicked Uncle of history. Could such a sensitive, noble face actually belong to one of the world’s most heinous villains—a venomous hunchback who may have killed his brother’s children to make his crown secure? Or could Richard have been the victim, turned into a monster by the usurpers of England’s throne? Grant determines to find out once and for all, with the help of the British Museum and an American scholar, what kind of man Richard Plantagenet really was and who killed the Little Princes in the Tower.

The Daughter of Time is an ingeniously plotted, beautifully written, and suspenseful tale, a supreme achievement from one of mystery writing’s most gifted masters.

From my Canada Day sound track:

What’s Up Wednesday, the Early Edition: Release, Canada Day, and WINNER!

It’s a big big day here at Casa Chaos.

NumbeDating a Single Dad - coverr One: DATING A SINGLE DAD is now available!  It’s an amazing day for an author when she knows her book is out in the world. Also a little scary. You have to hope that you (with the amazing guidance of your amazing editor) got it right, because it’s too late to make those brilliant changes now!

Number Two: It’s CANADA DAY! It’s hard to find maple leaf-themed items here in Upstate NY, so the girls and Iflag toes made Canadian Flag tee shirts, I assembled a Canada Day playlist, and we’re heading to the store to buy the fixings for poutine. Plus, I got inspired and gave myself Canadian Flag tootsies. Because – well, why not?

Number Three: We have a winner! CAROLYN B. is the winner of the Brynn Catalano Pity Party Prize Package! Congratulations,  Carolyn!

And now I shall go take a nap. Happy Canada Day!!
