i always do a soundtrack for my books, but i must confess, Bree and Spence gave me a harder time than most of my people. They treated their music the same as their relationship; very hush-hush. But when I did find a song that seemed to speak to their story, I knew it was a winner. So what songs got me into the Bree and Spence mood? Let’s have a listen.
There’s no two ways about it: at the beginning of the book, Bree and Spence really don’t like each other. There’s a history there and it’s not what anyone would call good. In fact, loathing might be a bit of an understatement.
But things change. Spence in particular is aware of the seasons, of the fact that there is a time to plant and a time to reap, a time to hold onto hurts and a time to move past them. Seasons change. Relationships change. People change.
All through the Calypso Falls stories, I’ve been intrigued by the relationship between the parents, Rob and Neenee. Rob put his family through the worst pain imaginable, faking his own death to try to avoid jail. It’s hard to believe that Neenee could feel anything for him anymore, yet the more I wrote, the more I wondered if there was sill something there.
The other relationship I’ve loved in these books is that between the sisters. Bree, Jenna, Kyrie, Paige, and Annie – each her own woman, but all so tightly connected. These sisters love and torture and tease and support each other with a fierceness that I think any of us would love to receive.
There’s a few other songs in the mix as well. If you’d like to have a listen, click here. Let me know what you think. And if you find yourself saying, “What? How could she have missed NAME OF SONG?” – then do let me know! I’d love to expand on this!
